Identifying Magic Items

IDENTIFICATION
Identification of magic items require the use of the following identify spell and or uninterrupted experimentation periods of 8 hours. The 8 hour experimentation period are equivalent to casting an instance of the identify spell.
◦ Common or uncommon items require 8 hours of examination.
◦ Rare and very rare items require 16 hours of examination.
◦ Legendary items require 24 hours of examination.
◦ Artifacts require 24-32 hours of examination depending on the composition of its properties.

Identification of items can be easily arranged in major urban centers. Usually a deposit of 1200g.t., or a binding agreement that the item will remain in the possession of the person performing the identification until the sum is paid in full are required. Cost are as follows:
◦ Common or uncommon items, 300g.t.
◦ Rare and very rare items, 600g.t.
◦ Legendary items, 900g.t.
◦ Artifacts, 1200g.t.

Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (a pearl worth at least 100 gp and
an owl feather)
Duration: Instantaneous

You choose one object that you must touch throughout the casting of the spell. Once casting begins the strength of its magical aura is revealed and you will be given the option to expend a higher spell slot in order uncover more information about the item. If it is a magic item or some other magically imbued object you learn the following:
◦ If it is an magically imbued object, you learn whether any spells are affecting the item and what they are. If the item was created by a spell, you learn which spell created it.
◦ If it is a creature, you learn whether any spells are affecting it and what they are.
◦ If it is a common or uncommon item, you learn it properties and how to use them, whether it requires attunement to use, and how many charges it has, if any.
◦ If it is a rare or very rare item, you’ll need to cast this spell multiple times or cast it at spell slot one higher to discover its secrets.
⁃ On the first casting you learn whether it is a cursed item or not, how many effects it has and how many charges each effect has remaining, and whether it requires attunement.
⁃ On the second casting you learn what those effects are and the means of operating the item.
◦ If it is a legendary item, you’ll need to cast this spell multiple times or cast it at a spell slot two higher to discover its secrets.
⁃ On the first casting you learn whether it is a cursed item or not, how many effects it has and how many charges each effect has remaining, and whether it requires attunement.
⁃ On the second casting you learn what those effects are.
⁃ On the third casting you learn the means of operating the item.
◦ If it is an artifact, you’ll need to cast this spell multiple times or cast it at a spell slot three higher to discover its secrets.
⁃ On the first casting you learn whether it is a cursed item or not, how many effects it has and how many charges each effect has remaining, and whether it requires attunement.
⁃ On the second casting you learn what the major beneficial and detriment properties are.
⁃ On the third casting, you learn the minor beneficial and detrimental properties are, or if there are none then you learn the means of operating the item.
⁃ On the forth casting, you learn the means of operating the item.
